Gabriel Abergel started in the Mosler which Xavier Pompidou had qualified on pole.

Abergel produced two excellent stints under a blazing sun and this enabled Xavier Pompidou to take the wheel for the second hour of the race with the n°2 Ferrari of Perrier, Pagny and Bouvet in his sights, running second at the time following the race-leaders’ problems.

Bouvet got an excellent start and was squabbling politely with David Loger in the n°3 Porsche, which lead briefly before encountering problems and finally finishing fifth. He handed the wheel to Pagny, who held up his end while Perrier completed a two-hour stint before handing over to Bouvet who had to do everything in his power to resist the storming Pompidou. The driver of Mosler n°5 continued to flirt outrageously with the limits of his car. The sapping heat led to many retirements, allowing him to set the fastest lap on a clear track, but most of all, he wanted to see his co-driver’s smile after the chequered flag.

Despite his skill, Jean-Bernard Bouvet couldn’t keep up the pace, trapped with his brakes worn down to the discs. After five hours and fifty-five minutes of racing, the Mosler took the Ferrari to the delight of everyone at Ruffier Racing.

The overall podium provided an eclectic mix, with a Porsche in first place ahead of a Mosler and a Ferrari.
